Some Notes on Simulacra Machines, Flash in First-Year Composition, and Tactics in Spaces of Interruption

" This article is an examination of the discourse surrounding a new media tool, Macromedia's Flash, and a discussion of a qualitative study of Flash's use by students as part of an electronic portfolio assignment in a first-year composition course."

Author's Note: The Flash 6 player is required to view this article and is available as a free download from www.macromedia.com. The article is best viewed with a broadband connection and a computer with speakers since both audio and video are contained within it. Although the article contains streaming media files from a Flash Communication Server, modem speeds have not been optimized in their delivery. The article is accessible for those using modem connections, however, downloading times will be significant, especially within the video sections.

by Anthony Ellertson, with excerpts of Flash Compositions from Alex Gray, Brandon Reis, Travis Querry, and Timothy Shepherd
