Lets Talk About Miiverse

Conclusion

Since the Miiverse closed, gamers have migrated on to newer communication platforms, but nothing has moved into fill the hole that the Miiverse left behind. Services like Discord and Reddit give users, the opportunity to gather together and form communities based around a niche subject, but they fail to have the same level of integration with the subjects themselves.

There have been attempts to recreate the Miiverse by some members of the community. An example of this is Closedverse, a link to which can be found under Helpful Links. Closedverse utilizes a lot of the same community cultivating tools that Miiverse used while it was active. The only downside to the service is that it, like the other services mentioned above, is lacking integration with the games that the communities are built around.

There have also been efforts by the community to maintain a record of posts on the Miiverse. The group known as Archive Team have gathered up every post that was ever written on Miiverse and archived it in an easily searchable database. This archive, known as Archiverse, will be incredibly helpful to future cultural anthropologists who wish to study internet cultures since you can go back and read the entirety of posts to a community forum.

The efforts by the community to maintain the platform that they once had, either through rebuilding it or archiving it, is something that should be noted. When Nintendo closed the Miiverse, they shut down a platform that was truly innovative in terms of how it made the development of communities easier than ever by integrating the platform with a piece of media, and in how the company encouraged users to form bonds with one another.

When Nintendo closed Miiverse, they took a step backwards in the evolution of online community building.
