(Salvo's Story) (Post)Modern movie studios are corporations unto themselves. Huge budgets, huge expectations, and huge responsibilities come with the gigantic enterprise represented by these behemoths of cultural creation. Perhaps video game shops are the closest correllary to the metaphor at work here. The cheapest part of the entire process (and the one most often short-shrifted) is content creation: the creation of the fictional world. The storyline the plot is too often ignored in Hollywood blockbusters, which often results in lackluster performance yet contradictarily opens up opportunities for worldwide distribution. So maybe a new kind of creative studio model is necessary.
