Internet Consumerism

The Internet is just another way for advertisements to corrupt college students minds.  A person cannot turn around without seeing a "click here" sign.

Avoiding Advertising on the Internet:

It is almost impossible not to see the constant flash of ads on the Internet.  When an ad starts flashing a person's first reaction is to click to another page, but as soon as he or she does another ad is there waiting.  There are not many commercial free sites, however, here is one.

The Key Word In Consumerism:

Look at the word consumerism.  The main point in that word is consume.  Advertising consumes a lot of viewers attention on the computer screen.  The advertisers know how to catch the eye of the viewing public.  A person can know exactly what he or she is searching for on the Internet, but there always seems to be some "click here" sign that catches his or her eye.  That also goes for sites that are trying to discourage obsessive advertising.

Consumerism Interview:

Q:  What have you been taught about consumerism?
A:  In business training the instructors taught me to be very leery of advertisements.  The saying if something sounds to good to be true it probably is, is a very important lesson.

Q:  Is advertising really important for success?
A:  Yes and no.  Yes, because you have to make the buyer aware of the product.  However, a quality product will sell itself.

Q:  What is your opinion on advertising on the Web Sites?
A:  I wouldn't want to.  It clutters up the sites, but some are eye catching.

Q:  As a consumer, do you pay attention to ads in the paper more than television or billboards?
A:  I avoid newspaper ads and pay most attention to television advertisements.  For example I really like the Denny's restaurant commercial with the rooster.

Q:  As a consumer would you ever choose not to purchase a product because of the advertisement a company does?
A:  Yes, absolutely an advertisement could make or break a product.
