Some groups, such as this one, accomplished quite a bit in their chats:

Student 1 (Oct 27 1999 7:20PM): Hello Student 2 and 3, It is hard to believe I finally was able to log on to the Internet. It has been busy all night long. Student 3, I like your suggestions. I think if we focus on the changes war causes, we build a nice web page. Who do you think our audience will be? Also, how are we going to present this? Perhaps we can find some pictures of the real players to put in the web page.
Student 2 (Oct 27 1999 7:31PM): Ok, I read it. Does Student 3 know that we were going to get on here tonight?; (Note: We sometimes had technical problems during this semester with students getting knocked out of the Studio chatrooms. Since neither of these students signed off here, that is what appears to happened.

Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:38PM): I agree, in fact I was thinking about a topic based on her ideas. What do you think about the topic of our web page as "The Life and Times of AAGPBL". Does that sound to much like a old saying?
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:38PM): That sounds great!!
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:40PM): I hope Student 3 remembered that we were meeting.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:41PM): Now, what about our audience? Should we list the web page audience as sports minded people? May be we should include people who are interested in history also.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:43PM): I think we'll have a wide variety of people interested in it. people interested in sports, history, certain actors, and probably other things.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:44PM): I hope Student 3 remembers we are meeting today also. I would like to talk or write with her on line.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:46PM): I am going to go back to Student 3's message for a moment. I want to print them out. I will be back in a minute.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:50PM): I am back. Perhaps Student 3 is having a hard time getting on line. Have you had any more ideas for the proposal?
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:51PM): Actually I've been coming up with what we sortof have at this point. The topic would be what you said, "The Life and Times of AAGPBL." The audience would be what I said, maybe. I'm not sure exactly what the purpose is. I guess it is to inform people of the AAGPBL and how it was a part of history. It will contain history of the time period, facts about the movie and characters and I guess our opinions of the movie. I don't know how it will be organized. And i'm not sure what we can use for pictures.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:52PM): I think that summed up what we have so far. I looked at each question and wrote what we talked about.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 3:57PM): For the site's purpose, we can state "to raise an awareness of the league and the role it played during the war. Do we each need to turn in a proposal, or do we write up one proposal and turn it in with each of our names on it? I realize this probable sounds like a dumb question, but I am still alittle unsure of this.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 3:58PM): I'm pretty sure we turn in one proposal. Let me check. I'll be right back.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:00PM): Yeah. We turn in one proposal. I don't know where the proposal is supposed to be posted though. Just like what we've been doing with our messages??
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:03PM): Maybe we should post it both in the cafe and have a hard copy of it. We also may want to say it to one of our disk.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:03PM): That's a good idea. Who's going to type the proposal?
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:06PM): My suggestion is; I can type it up with the information we have put together so far. Then I can e-mail it to you and Student 3. You and Student 3 can make changes and/or adjustments to it, and e-mail it back to everyone.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:07PM): So are we going to wait for Student 3 any longer??
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:08PM): I'm fine with you emailing it and everything. I don't want you to have to do all of the work though. Are you ok with doing that?
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:10PM): No, I don't think Student 3 will be joining us. Yes, I am fine with typing up the proposal. Just as long as you and Student 3 can help with the little details I might miss or leave out.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:10PM): Actually, it is the grammer that you will need to check most of all.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:11PM): Sure!! I'll leave a message for Student 3 letting her know that you'll be emailing us the proposal.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:13PM): Peggy had suggested that she would research the history, and the two of us could do the research on the biographies and the way the war changed the roles. I think this maybe a good idea. Do you have a preference as to which you would like to do?
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:14PM): I don't care what I do. You can pick.
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:17PM): Right now I am working on a paper for Western Civilization class on WWI. So, since I am getting to know the sources for information on wars, I'll do the research on how WWII changed the traditional roles of men and women.
Student 2 (Oct 29 1999 4:18PM): Ok, so i'm doing the biographies right?
Student 1 (Oct 29 1999 4:20PM): Yes, if that is all right with you. How many biographies do you think we need? Perhaps, just on the main characters of the movie. I suppose we can worry about that later. It was a thought that just came to my mind.

Student 1 (Nov 3 1999 7:07PM): Hello Student 1, I finally was able to get on to the Internet. I have been trying since 7:00pm. Have you had a chance to read the assignment?
Student 2 (Nov 3 1999 7:08PM): yes, i read the assignment but i still haven't read the introductions. i just finished typing a paper i've been working on all week. what a relief!!
Student 1 (Nov 3 1999 7:09PM): What class was your paper for?
Student 2 (Nov 3 1999 7:11PM): Math 111. The school requires us to write a paper in that class. I'm glad i'm done! now I can concentrate on this project.
Student 1 (Nov 3 1999 7:12PM): I am working on a paper for my Western Civilization class. I wish I could say the same that I was finished.
Student 1 (Nov 3 1999 7:14PM): It doesn't look like Student3 will make it again tonight. We could talk about this assignment tomorrow in class.
Student 2 (Nov 3 1999 7:15PM): that will work. that's funny! i was thinking the same thing!!

Student 2 (Nov 10 1999 7:06PM): I noticed that you weren't in class yesterday. You missed a quiz but that's about it.
Student 1 (Nov 10 1999 7:07PM): I was planning on working on these the week of Thanksgiving. Tonight, I am the one who just finished writing an essay. I haven't had time to do much other than research for that paper.
Student 2 (Nov 10 1999 7:07PM): No, I haven't started the biographies. Do you think I should look where you were looking the other day?
Student 1 (Nov 10 1999 7:11PM): That is probably not a bad idea. Prehaps tomorrow we can figure out who we want to look-up. I'm sorry, I am so tired tonight. Maybe we should try to met here earlier. Do you mind if we talk before or after class tomorrow?

Student 3 (Nov 11 1999 9:48AM): Student 1 and Student 2: Student 2 I really liked your summry of what our paper is all about. "to raise an awareness of the league and the role it played during the war" One of the things I have discovered in my research is that the major newspapers of the day, specifically the Chicago Tribue and the New York Times, did not approve of the girls professional baseball league. They showed their disapproval by NOT including the AAGPBL in the commentaries on the sports page. They did not consider the league as news worthy. I am making good headway on writing about the history of the league. The Baseball Hall of Fame had a ton of neat stuff. I have a copy of their code of conduct, their charm school instructions and the requirements if one of the players wanted to go out to dinner with a male admirer.
