DSU's Computing Environment
The unusually complete technology infrastructure at DSU made it an ideal site for the birth of one of the first OWLs in existence. Since 1984, DSU has focused on integrating computer technology throughout the curriculum, which mandated the development of a campus-wide computing environment that offers unique computer access to all students and faculty. Currently the computer to student ratio is 1:6; that count does not include the student-owned computers used in dormitories. Each dormitory room is hard wired to the campus network, and any student can have network access from his dorm room for a minimal cost. During the first semester at DSU, each student must take an introductory course that acquaints her with the computing environment. The computing environment and computer savvy of all students made DSU a perfect place to start an online writing lab.
