Should Basic Writers Use the OWL?
Yes. Basic writers need the attention of trained tutors who are willing to interact with them and their writing, despite a focus on issues our tutors have been discouraged from addressing.
We believe that an awareness of our tutors' "double agency" will allow us to train tutors to deal more effectively with the conflicts they encounter when the pedagogy we encourage clashes with the demands of their clients.
Like skilled "double agents," our tutors can become advocates for one epistemological ideology while still encouraging writers operating in another.
