Part II: Teaching and Learning

Whereas Part I of this collection emphasized the theoretical implications of collaboration, Part II focused on the practical application of and reflection on collaboration in the classroom. The chapters in this section explored collaboration in new programs, cooperative and collaborative teaching, and pedagogies of exploration that lend themself to collaborative learning. Each chapter addressed the associated complexities with collaboration while providing concrete examples in and beyond the field of English studies.

The examples in each chapter are the section's greatest strength. Each chapter represents a model for collaboration, whether it's between faculty members, students, or some combination. Nearly all the chapters include links to additional resources, whether it's links to video essays or collaborative assignments, the chapters in this section become a resource for future collaboration.

Even so, the inherent challenge with any digitally enhanced text is its sustainability. Some resources have been moved or removed, which makes the links no longer useful and, if anything, hinders the reading experience. Yet even with this drawback, the section does what it sets out to do exceptionally well: It "present[s] readers with compelling examples of how English studies professionals are employing collaborative approaches to the digital" (McGrath, 2011, p. 4).
